Meru Deputy Governor Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia is set to be officially sworn in as the county’s new governor after the High Court upheld the impeachment of Kawira Mwangaza.
A special Gazette Notice released on Friday, March 14, confirmed that Mutuma’s swearing-in ceremony will be held on Monday, March 17, at Mwendantu Grounds.
Official Announcement
According to Martin Gitije, the chairperson of the Assumption of the Office of Governor Committee, the event will begin at 8:30 AM.
“In line with the Constitution and the County Governments Act, as well as the Assumption of the Office of Governor Act, the swearing-in of Isaac Mutuma M’Ethingia as the Governor of Meru County will take place on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Mwendantu Grounds,” the official notice stated.
Court Dismisses Mwangaza’s Appeal
The decision to proceed with Mutuma’s swearing-in follows a ruling by Justice Bahati Mwamuye, who dismissed Mwangaza’s challenge against her impeachment.
“The petitioner has not demonstrated that the Senate’s legal and factual analysis was fundamentally flawed to warrant interference by this court,” the judge ruled.
Mwangaza was impeached in August 2024 over allegations of gross constitutional violations and breaches of the Public Officer Ethics Act.
