  • President William Ruto has dismissed his critics, accusing them of focusing on ethnic politics instead of economic growth.
  • He challenged opposition leaders to present an alternative economic plan for the country rather than just opposing his administration.
  • Speaking in Ndau Island, Lamu County, he urged Kenyans to ignore divisive politics and focus on national unity.
  • He announced a Ksh.14 million investment in the region, including funding for education and infrastructure development.

While launching an off-grid solar access project in Ndau Island, Lamu County, President William Ruto took a swipe at his critics, accusing them of lacking a solid economic agenda.

He claimed that opposition leaders are only interested in ethnic-based politics rather than finding solutions to Kenya’s economic challenges.

“Msijali matapeli ambao hawana mpango. Nimewasikiza kwa makini, wanaongea kwenye mtandao, radio, magazeti, mpango yao ni kuondoa Ruto. Hawana sera, hawana maoni, hawana chochote.” (Don’t worry about fraudsters with no plan. I have listened to them carefully—they speak on social media, radio, and newspapers. Their only agenda is to remove Ruto. They have no policies, no solutions, nothing.)

He further insisted that leadership is determined by God and urged politicians to seek policies instead of power.

“Niwaambie mwenye kuweka viongozi ni Mungu sio nyinyi. Msijisumbue kupanga mambo, tafuteni sera.” (Let me tell you, it is God who appoints leaders, not you. Stop scheming and focus on policies.)

Call for Unity and Development

President Ruto encouraged Lamu residents to reject divisive rhetoric and focus on development. He assured them that his government is committed to ensuring Kenya’s economic growth despite political opposition.

“Hawa wasiwatishe, sisi tunapanga vile Kenya itaendelea mbele. We will not allow people who don’t have a vision to derail us with negative ethnicity and useless politics rather than unite us. Niko tayari kuunganisha Wakenya wote.” (Don’t be intimidated by them. We are planning how Kenya will progress. I am ready to unite all Kenyans.)

Ksh.14 Million Development Funds for Ndau Island

During his visit, President Ruto announced a Ksh.14 million investment for Ndau Island, which includes:

  • Ksh.10 million for hiring and training new teachers.
  • Ksh.2 million for the construction of a school.
  • Ksh.2 million for the construction of a mosque.

This funding aims to boost education and infrastructure in the coastal region, aligning with Ruto’s broader economic development agenda.

His remarks come amid growing political tensions, with former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua recently declaring that Central Kenya will not support Ruto’s 2027 re-election bid. However, Ruto remains firm in his push for national unity and economic transformation.
