Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has cautioned leaders against hastily decamping to former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua’s camp, warning that many were making the move without careful consideration.
Speaking in Kirinyaga County on Tuesday, February 18, Waiguru argued that some politicians were hoping to secure party tickets without a guarantee, and were failing to assess whether Gachagua would even be on the ballot in 2027.
Waiguru’s Warning
- She urged Mt Kenya leaders to remain in President William Ruto’s government to focus on development instead of engaging in premature political realignments.
- “Don’t be in a hurry because even where you are being told to go, there is no guarantee that you will get the party ticket,” she cautioned.
- “Ask yourself, will he be on the ballot? Let us wait and see, this is the time to work and seek development from the national government.”
Gachagua’s Political Moves
- The former DP has been hosting leaders at his Wamunyoro home, strategizing for 2027.
- He recently revealed that he would unveil his political party in May 2025.
- “Our vehicle is ready. It is in the showroom, a brand-new vehicle… We will unveil it in May 2025 and start opening offices,” Gachagua stated.
Waiguru’s remarks highlight the deepening political rift in Mt Kenya as leaders weigh their options ahead of the 2027 elections.
