- The delay is due to stringent anti-cheating measures and thorough checks.
The release of the 2024 Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) exam results has been delayed until early January. This marks a departure from the usual end-of-year timeline. The Ministry of Education has attributed the delay to the record number of candidates and rigorous measures to ensure integrity.
Historic Candidate Numbers
This year saw 965,501 students sit for the KCSE exams, the highest in Kenya’s history. Education Cabinet Secretary Julius Ogamba acknowledged the challenge, emphasizing the need for accuracy and fairness.
“The Ministry is committed to ensuring that the results reflect both accuracy and integrity,” said Ogamba.
Anti-Cheating Measures in Focus
Apart from the large number of candidates, the Ministry has implemented stringent anti-cheating protocols. These include meticulous verification of exam scripts to uphold credibility and fairness in the results.
Marking was completed last week, but processing has taken longer due to the volume and cross-checking processes.
A Shift in Priorities
Traditionally, KCSE results were announced within days of marking. However, this year’s approach underscores a priority on fairness and thoroughness over speed.
Parents, candidates, and schools have been urged to remain patient as the Ministry finalizes the results. Updates on the release will be communicated soon, ensuring the process remains transparent and reliable.
