Businessman Khalif Kairo has stepped forward to defend his girlfriend, Maria Wavinya, against circulating rumors that she previously worked as an escort. The allegations surfaced following Wavinya’s disclosure of her past employment with a Chinese couple, where she was involved in content creation and influencer marketing between 2020 and 2022.
Wavinya explained that she worked for Mr. Wang and his wife as a content creator and influencer during those years. “I traveled frequently with them, sometimes on very short notice. I managed both my job and my online studies,” Wavinya clarified, adding that she has since retired from content creation.
Kairo strongly refuted the escort claims, stressing the unfairness of labeling successful women in such a derogatory way. He highlighted the opportunities available for influencers in the Chinese market, mentioning platforms like Youku, where Kenyan models have quietly earned substantial income. “It’s disappointing that people are quick to assume women achieve success through dubious means,” Kairo said.
He also shared frustration over the tendency to dismiss successful individuals with negative assumptions, stating, “When a man makes money, they say it’s ‘wash wash,’ but for women, they claim she’s an escort. These attitudes come from bitterness.” Kairo praised Wavinya’s work, including low-profile influencing for brands like Ferrari, and encouraged people to focus on building their own lives instead of spreading negativity.
