- AFC Leopards head coach Tomas Trucha has expressed his displeasure over the state of Stadia hosting the FKF Premier League, claiming they are “horrible” and “terrible”.
The Czech Republic coach who is on his second stint at the club witnessed his side earn a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bidco United to rise to second in the FKF Premier League table.
The Thika Sub-County Stadium which had been closed for renovations looked to be in a very dilapidated shape with dust everywhere, closed lavatories, and a changing room that never existed.
AFC Leopards commonly known as “Ingwe” were forced to change by the perimeter with fans in full sight.
It is this lack of privacy that led to Trucha fuming, saying that these were the things that halted Kenya’s progress in global football and kept the standards low.
“To be honest, I have a mixture of feelings because of Kenyan football in 2024, do you want to see this?
Do you like Kenyan football? I don’t like it,” he said after Saturday’s victory.
Trucha whose side had lost 1-0 to Posta Rangers in matchday two in Machakos bounced back to claim victory at Bidco United courtesy of a tap-in from new boy Sidney Lokale.
A visibly furious Trucha pointed out fingers at the Football Kenya Federation for allowing facilities that are worse than Sunday League pitches to host top-flight matches.
He highlighted the absence of dressing rooms and bathrooms at the municipal stadium located at the heart of Thika town, lamenting the necessity for players to find makeshift solutions during matches.
He said,” You need to follow rules, you need dressing rooms, When you relieve yourself where do you go? On the tires of your cars and bus, am I right?” he quipped.
The Kiambu County government had closed the Thika stadium for renovations to the tune of Ksh 60 million( $465,000) but nothing seems to be done with the same complaints still noted.
Currently, the country does not have any approved sporting facilities with the main stadia,Nyayo Stadium and Kasarani Stadium, closed for renovations ahead of next year’s CHAN tournament and the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations(AFCON)
