Youtube Has Lowered Monetization Eligibility to 500 Subscribers

Google-owned video-sharing platform YouTube has lowered the subscriber threshold to 500 making it eligible for creators to earn from their content.

Now, the creator needs to have 500 subscribers, with a minimum of 3 public upholds in the last 90 days and either 3000 watch hours in the past year or 3 million short views in the last 90 days.

“We are starting to roll out this new level of YouTube partner program to creators in the Us, Uk, Canada, Taiwan, and South Korea and we will introduce earlier access to all countries where YPP is available over time”, YouTube said in a post.

Previously a creator had to have at least 1000 subscribers and either 4000 watch hours in the past year or 10 million short views in the last 90 days to qualify for the YouTube Partner Program.

The company also said that creators who continue to grow their channels will automatically become eligible to earn revenue sharing from advertising rather than going through the full YouTube partner program application process.

In Kenya, content creators who earn through YouTube get as low as 1000 shillings per 10000 views which is lower than what their western counterparts get, who sometimes make $29.30 which is equivalent to 4000shilings per 10,000 views for long videos according to American publisher business insider.
