John Maina, famously known as MC Fullstop, who is a K24 TV and NRG Radio host, shocked Kenyans online on by revealing that he was surviving on one lung.

The renowned reggae emcee revealed through his social media handles that his left lung collapsed due to tuberculosis (TB). Worse, he added, the disease also affected his speech.

“This one is gone literally, my left lung has totally collapsed leaving me with one lung remaining, in 2021 I was diagnosed with TB in my lungs which resulted in complete lung failure, and in 2022 I was also diagnosed with TB in my throat, which has caused problems with my voice, running, walking, and speaking,” he wrote in part.

He also noted that his time to retire from the entertainment industry had come as the disease was irreversible.

“Lungs unlike the liver cannot regenerate, the lungs do not have the same capability and I will have to adjust to the situation, and I see myself hanging boots. I want to thank those that have supported me in these difficult times God bless you,” he noted.

How TB affects lungs

According to Mayo Clinic, tuberculosis can spread when a person with the illness coughs, sneezes, or sings. This can put tiny droplets of germs into the air. Another person can then breathe in the droplets, and the germs enter the lungs.

Tuberculosis spreads easily where people gather in crowds or where people live in crowded conditions. People with HIV/AIDS and other people with weakened immune systems have a higher risk of catching tuberculosis than people with typical immune systems.

Antibiotics can treat tuberculosis. But some forms of the bacteria no longer respond well to treatments.
