Daniel Wanyonyi, a former champion of the Africa Boxing Union, has challenged Tanzania’s Karim “Mtu Kazi” Mandonga to a rematch, claiming that he has improved his claw sharpness enough to rip him to shreds.
Wanyonyi made the comments following his mocking of Ugandan opponent Charles Kakande in a six-round middleweight fight without a title on Saturday night at the Moi Stadium Kasarani Gymnasium in Nairobi.
Wanyonyi needed less than a minute to knock Kakande to the ground and force referee Emmanuel Mlundwa to start counting the eight seconds of standing still.
Later, Wanyonyi fired another deadly hook that sent Kakande sliding to the ground, causing the referee to stop the fight as the home fans erupted in joyous cheers.
“I want to first apologise to my opponent because he is still trying to figure out what hit him so hard,” Wanyonyi lightly joked.
“This is the real Wanyonyi. I think the time is now ripe for them to bring Mandonga to the ring for thorough hiding. I’m prepared to impart some wisdom to him. Bring the joker now,” Wanyonyi said with a broad smile.
The boxer stated that he was ready to make up for his prior humiliation at the hands of Mandonga, who rendered him ineligible with a technical knockout in the sixth round on January 14 at the KICC in Nairobi.
“I have returned, and I want Mandonga to know that a train wreck is about to happen very soon. Please remind him to prepare for a rematch. When I last fell to him, I was rusty. With Covid-19 complicating things, I had just returned to training after taking a break for almost four years,” said Wanyonyi.
However, Mandonga instantly retaliated, declaring that he was ready to send Wanyonyi back to his creator and challenging the man to retract his statements and confront him once more.
