She is one of the African businesspeople who have invested in the snail farming business. Together with former Nigerian President Olesegun Obasanjo.
According to Rosemary, she began her business in 2007 as a hobby that grew into a profitable venture.
Before she could begin the business, she needed to travel to Nigeria to meet with Obasanjo, one of the country’s snail farmers. And the one who inspired Rosemary to start her own business.
After consulting in Nigeria, she returned to start the business with the assistance of snail experts from the University of Nairobi.
She was able to get started with 13 snails. Unfortunately, eleven of them died and only two survived due to extreme heat which was unfavorable.
Later, she built a green house on a 25-acre plot of land in Kiserian and named it “Farm sheltops”. The name that is still in use today.
Through a friend, Rose began exporting Snails to a French restaurant, which was pleased with her work.
She continued to export to countries where snails are consumed, including Asia, Europe, America, and parts of Africa.
Rose’s sales, according to sources, generate billions of dollars annually from export.
Snail benefits
Snails are used for both nutritional and health purposes. They supply iron and calcium to the body. Nursing mothers and growing children benefit from snail as food.
