Brief History

St. Alberts Ulanda Girls School is a Girls only boarding secondary school located in Sakwa, Migori County in the Nyanza Region.

The school was founded in 1967 with a purpose to empower women through education. In 1971, The institution enrolled to its first A-Level science classes.
In 2016, the school name rocked the news headlines after one of its students was hit by a stray bullet during Lake Region interschool second term ball games. The student was shot by a prison warder who was in hot pursuit of a prisoner that was escaping.

Headed by Mrs Buyengo Phinorah, The school has endorsed three official languages, English, Kiswahili and French. The students of Ulanda clad in navy blue skirts and pullovers with white blouses.

Academic Performance

The academic performance of the school is top notch in Nyanza region and it has convinced many parents desire to admit their girls there. In the 2021 KCSE results, St Alberts Ulanda recorded a mean grade of 8.5 from the 529 students that sat for the national exams.

Co-Curricular Excellence

Apart from just shining in books, Co-curricular activities at the school include scientific and engineering fairs, handball, basketball, legball, hockey, badminton, table tennis, music, drama, and athletics, to name a few. The school reached the national basketball championship in 2012 Maseno School. It also has different clubs and societies that aim in moulding the girl child become an all round person in the outside world. There are fifteen active clubs and five organisations at the school. Thursdays from 4 to 5 p.m. are set aside for club activities and meetings in the school program.

Notable alumnus to have emerged from the institution who were guided by the school motto, “Aspire to Excellence”, include Eunice Amamo, the Deputy principal at Archibishop Okoth Ojolla Girls High School; Lynne Odiwa, a Public Relations Research Consultant; Mary Odiyo of ILRI; Rose Omollo, an Agribusiness Management Officer at Diageo; Dr Awuor Ondeng, Registrar at Moi University School of Medicine (Eldoret); Beatrice Owino, Customers Service Advisor at KRA; Roselyne Dodoh of Vivo Energy Kenya; and Benter Akeyo, an educational consultant with Kenya Institute Of Curriculum Development (KICD)
