Kisumu city residents are claiming that they are expiriencing the shortage of condoms after the Africities Summit kicked off today.
Speaking to KenyanTrend earlier today, Mr Albanus Owino, a resident of Obunga estate in Kisumu revealed that the city is expiriencing the shortage of condoms which are provided the government free as the population in the area has increased bringing the circus to happen.
“ There are no adequate condoms in the area now after the Mega Africa event started here, and this has been brought by the increase in population here by people drawn across the continent who are here for the Africities Summit” said Albanus Owino.
“ Most of us depend on those (condoms) provided by the government and currently they are not anywhere near to be found, everyone is scrambling for the few that are left in public places and we’re calling on the government to facilitate them as fast as possible.
Reports from Kisumu say that condom prices have been hiked up to Kshs 100/- from Kshs 50/- the normal price per pack.
The Africities Summit has been launched today and will run up to Saturday 21st May and it will be closed by President Uhuru Kenyatta, former Chelsea and African football icon’s Didier Drogba and Samuel Eto’o are tipped to attend the event.
