European football’s governing body has looked to implement new plans to reward two teams with places in Champions League.Some of the proposals that had been put on table was to extend group stage matches from six to ten matches.
UEFA has confirmed that statement to extend the group stage to Ten matches has been shelved.The European clubs association met in Madrid On Monday to discuss the proposals to expand the competition.
The plans set to expand Champions League to 36 teams will go ahead despite concerns around fixture congestion.UEFA has announced how the four additional places will be distributed.
Based On the Current season, England and Netherlands would be the two associations granted the additional places.That could have been good news to Manchester United as it would have meant they only need to finish the fifth position and get a direct ticket to the Champions League.
Similar Format changes will also be applied to the UEFA Europa league and UEFA Conference League and both will also include 36 teams in the League Phase.The Changes will take into action as from 2024/25 season.
