Sauti Sol working on a  ‘Tujiangalie’ remix with Khaligraph Jones

Sauti Sol has collaborated with rapper Khaligraph Jones on a remix of their 2018 hit song “Tujiangalie” (self-reflection) as we approach the August general election.

In a “Tujiangalie remix” behind-the-scenes video, released by Sauti Sol on Friday, July 22, 2022, the members of the band explain why the remix is so crucial during this election season.

“If we all unite with one voice, it’s a wrap… we are trying to flex as much as we can because we have a lot of people who are looking up to us to make a difference.

“I’m just hoping that right now people are wise enough to know how this game is being played. Take the direction of change and that’s what basically we are pushing for, so tujiangalie,” says Kahligraph Jones.

The “Tujiangalie remix” behind-the-scenes video, which was released by Sauti Sol on Friday, July 22, 2022, included information on why the remix is so crucial during this election season.

According to the lead vocalist for Sauti Sol, Bien-Aime Baraza, the Tujiangalie remix will serve as a reminder to Kenyans to cast their votes wisely.

“I really hope that this song reaches you and you understand it so that it can also change you. As you go and vote just remember don’t let the same snake bite you twice,” Bein-Aime said.

“When a song has a meaning, it can outlive us. We can say we are from a certain generation and we sensitized people about a particular change in our society,”  said Savara Mudigi who is a member of the Sauti Sol band.

Sauti sol released the original song in August 2018, featuring Nyashinski. The song reminds Kenyans to always choose the right candidates for public office.

Sauti Sol and Nyashinski discuss concerns impacting Kenya as a nation in the song, including debt, corruption, democracy, religion, tribalism, patriotism, and the role social media plays in all of these.

The song also serves as a reminder to Kenya’s youth of their country’s reliance on them on a variety of fronts.
