Sauti Sol, Vic West earn nominations for EAEA awards
Kenyan afro-pop group Sauti Sol, Tsinger Iyani, and rapper Vic West have been nominated for the Artist/Group of the Year award at the 2023 East Africa Arts Entertainment Awards (EAEA). The trio will be competing against some of the biggest names in African music for the coveted award.
Sauti Sol with hit songs such as “Suzanna” and “Rhumba Japani” receiving widespread acclaim and topping charts across the region. The group has also collaborated with some of the biggest names in African music, including Fally Ipupa and Diamond Platnumz.
Vic West, a Kenyan rapper known for his socially conscious lyrics and dynamic flow, has been making waves in the Kenyan music scene with his debut album, “Pride”. The album tackles issues such as police brutality, political corruption, and economic inequality, and has resonated with audiences across the country.
Other nominees for the Artist/Group of the Year award include Alikiba, Diamond Platnumz, Eddy Kenzo, Fally Ipupa, Innoss’B, and Koffi Olomide. The winner will be announced at the awards ceremony, in May 2023.
In addition to the Artist/Group of the Year award, Sauti Sol has also been nominated for the Breakthrough Act of the Year award, alongside Mavokali, Bwiza, Afrique, Boutross, and Kontawa. This award recognizes up-and-coming artists who have made a significant impact on the industry in the past year.
The EAEA was established in 2021 to recognize and celebrate the best talent in East African music, film, and entertainment. The awards are judged by a panel of industry experts and are open to artists from Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Burundi, and South Sudan. Fans of Sauti Sol, Iyani, Vic West, and the other nominees are eagerly waiting to see who will emerge as the winners of this year’s awards.
