Azimio leader Raila Odinga returned to the country Thursday after conveniently jetting out for a ‘reflect and heal’ vacation on the day President William Ruto was being sworn in as the country’s 5th president.
Baba had taken a vacation in the spice Island of Zanzibar after the humiliating defeat to Ruto whose election was ascertained by the Supreme Court.
Photos of Raila having a chit-chat with Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua circulated on social media, leaving Raila’s 6 million plus strong army of supporters wondering what was cooking while the alternative political side mocked the former Prime Minister, saying Ruto’s government will not have a handshake moment.
The duo apparently bumped into each other at Moi Airport VIP Lounge in Mombasa and were photographed having a tête-à-tête.
Gachagua shared the photo on his Facebook saying: “We have tremendous respect for our senior citizens. I was delighted this morning to have a tete a tete with our senior citizen former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.”
Baba however would drop a Facebook post that indicated that he was ready to play the role of opposition leader once the dust of Kenya Kwanza celebrations settles.
He said: ”We once again thank Kenyans for voting for us and standing firmly with Azimio. As the majority coalition in the national assembly, we’ll play our oversight role robustly to ensure resources are prudently utilized by the executive. We will not be cowed.”
Raila is expected in Machakos for the Azimio Parliamentary Group meeting.
