  • The team’s recent loss to Mauritius in a four-nations tournament is a contributing factor to their decline in the rankings.

  • Argentina remains the top-ranked team in the world, followed by France and Brazil.

In the latest release of the FIFA rankings on June 29, Harambee Stars, the national football team of Kenya, has experienced a decline in their global standing.

Previously positioned at 102, they have dropped three places to now occupy the 105th spot worldwide, accumulating a total of 1191.07 points.

Within the African continent, Kenya currently holds the 16th position, trailing behind neighboring Uganda by three places. Uganda is situated at the 13th rank with 1250.32 points. The highest-ranked African team is Morocco, securing the 13th position globally with 1655.5 points.

Following closely is Senegal, standing at 18th place worldwide and second continentally with 1612.61 points. The top three African teams are concluded by Tunisia, holding 1516.66 points and positioned at 31st place globally.

Harambee Stars encountered a disappointing outcome during a four-nations tournament earlier in the month, suffering a 1-0 loss to underdog Mauritius. This outcome has contributed to their recent drop in the rankings.

The FIFA rankings play a crucial role in determining the draw for the African zone’s qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Notably, Kenya has been surpassed in the rankings by Kazakhstan, Mauritania, and Trinidad and Tobago, all of whom achieved impressive results in their respective continental tournaments.

At the top of the world rankings, Argentina, the winners of the 2022 World Cup, claim the leading position with 1843.73 points. France, the runners-up in the previous year’s Qatar tournament, hold the second spot with 1843.54 points.

The top 10 rankings are completed by Brazil, England, Belgium, Croatia, Netherlands, Italy, Portugal, and Spain.

On a separate note, Harambee Starlets, the Kenyan women’s national football team, is placed at 148th in the global rankings, with a total of 991.78 points.
