Detectives based in Kiambu County have successfully recovered assorted Kenya Power equipment worth Sh11 million, believed to have been vandalized.
The recovery operation took place last night following a raid at a scrap metal yard located in Denderu, which is owned by an individual identified as Patrick King’ori, who has since gone into hiding.
The recovered items included transformer fuses, pilon bindings, transformer laminations, transformer shells, and high tension cables, among other equipment that had been vandalized from power lines.
These stolen items are crucial components of Kenya Power’s infrastructure and play a significant role in ensuring uninterrupted electricity supply to communities.
During the raid, one suspect named Florence Kariuki, aged 30, was apprehended. However, the investigation is still ongoing as the authorities intensify their efforts to arrest the main suspect, Patrick King’ori, who is believed to be connected to the illicit activities.
The recovery of the stolen Kenya Power equipment is a significant achievement in combating the menace of vandalism and safeguarding the nation’s power infrastructure. Vandalism not only disrupts electricity supply but also poses a safety hazard to the public and leads to financial losses for Kenya Power.
The Kenyan public is urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities or individuals involved in the theft or vandalism of power equipment to the relevant authorities. Cooperation from the community plays a vital role in combating such crimes and ensuring the reliable supply of electricity to households, businesses, and public institutions.
Kenya Power, in collaboration with law enforcement agencies, will continue to intensify efforts to apprehend those involved in the vandalism of power equipment and bring them to justice. The recovery of the stolen items serves as a stern warning to potential perpetrators that their criminal activities will not go unpunished.
