It has emerged that the company which operated as a gas refilling company in Embakasi East was operating illegally.

According to the video that aired on Citizen TV a while back, Kenyan authorities had flagged the company,however, it has been operating.

According to the locals, the fire broke out at around 11:50 pm and lasted for a few minutes before Firefighters from Nairobi County, and Kenya Police arrived to contain the fire.

The explosion occurred in Mradi Estate in Embakasi East, near Jomo Kenyatta Airport.

The incident has highlighted the laxity of Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority in regulating the sector as mandated in the law.

According to the locals who speak to our team, on condition of anonymity, they said that they have written to NEMA concerning the company operations in residential areas.
