FKF happy to land CECAFA hosting rights, set to submit another bid

Exciting news for football fans in Kenya as the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) has been selected to host the 2023 CECAFA U18 Women’s Championships. The tournament is scheduled to take place from June 3rd to June 17th, 2023, and will be the first regional tournament hosted in Kenya since 2021, when the CAF Women Champions League CECAFA qualifiers were held in Nairobi.

According to FKF CEO Barry Otieno, hosting the tournament aligns perfectly with the federation’s twin priorities of youth and women’s development. He expressed his happiness at having the privilege to host the tournament and looks forward to a fantastic showcase in June.

The upcoming tournament will feature some of the best U18 female football teams from the CECAFA region, including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, Sudan, South Sudan, and Djibouti. The competition promises to be fierce, with all teams eager to claim the championship title.

Kenya has a strong record in U18 women’s football, having finished third in the 2019 edition held in Uganda. The team is expected to put up a strong performance in front of their home crowd and compete for the championship title.

In addition to hosting the U18 Women’s Championships, FKF has also submitted a bid to host the CECAFA U18 Boys Championships in November this year. If successful, this will be another opportunity for Kenya to showcase their capabilities as a host nation and further promote youth football development in the region.
