Eric Omondi released after spending hours in Central Police

Comedian-cum human rights activist Eric Omondi has been released from Central Police.

The comedian was released on Monday night after he was detained for several hours after being arrested along Uhuru Highway while delivering CVs to the state house.

The arrest came after the comic was caught towing a ‘mkokoteni’ (hand cart) which he claimed had thousands of CVs of young people looking for jobs.

He was taken into custody alongside 17 others and later charged in court with unlawful assembly. The case will be heard in May.

His previous two arrests were related to the cost-of-living protests, making this his third arrest in two months.

He was first arrested on February 21 on Parliament Way while leading protests against the high cost of living.

His second arrest came on March 1 when he was arrested as he distributed out maize flour to his fans at Nairobi City Stadium. He was unconditionally released on March 6.

“Nasikia vizuri sana niko free (I feel so nice I’m free)” he said upon setting foot out of the Station.

Two days earlier, Omondi had posted himself with the caption,

“We might be forced to free ourselves. It is God’s will that we are free from poverty and from any other form of slavery. People are suffering and if the government does not act fast, we will act soon. Do the right thing. The clock keeps ticking.”

The comic has been on the frontline of fighting for the rights of young people.

He has urged youths not to relent and fight for their rights and other human challenges including poverty, unemployment, and economic dawn.

He has also assured his supporters that change was on the way and urged them to join the protests and demonstrations.

“..They have nothing new to offer apart from poverty, unemployment, and economic slavery, but mark my words, a new dawn will arise soon and we will experience the rebirth of Kenya. Get ready!”
