The law enforcers held Gor Mahia to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at the Ulinzi Sports Complex, confirming their place at the top with 65 points. What started as an ordinary campaign turned into a memorable fairytale — powered by new leadership, raw determination, and a team that refused to give up. Stylish Entry, Royal Finish Dressed like champions even before kickoff, the Police players arrived at the stadium in a convoy of Mercedes-Benz cars and a limousine. They rocked matching blue suits, red ties, and white sneakers, drawing attention even before the action began. The grand finale drew in big names — from Raila Odinga to Interior CS Kipchumba Murkomen, PS Raymond Omollo, and DIG Gilbert Masengeli. The event also welcomed Mike Sonko, McDonald Mariga, and club chairman Nyale Munga. The newly designed FKF trophy was handed over by former Harambee Stars legend George Sunguti, as fans cheered the club’s first-ever league triumph. Gor Mahia Give Guard of Honour In a rare show of sportsmanship, Gor Mahia players formed a guard of honour for their rivals. Gor struck first in the 24th minute through Shariff Musa, but David Okoth equalized with a calm finish in the 56th minute, sealing the draw. Even though the result didn’t affect the table, it was a reminder of the fight and pride that carried Police all season. The title had already been secured a week earlier after Police edged Shabana FC 1-0 in Machakos. That win took them to an unreachable lead — and Sunday’s draw simply added polish to a golden run. From Slow Starters to Record Breakers Police FC’s story is one of patience, faith, and a powerful turnaround. Formed in 2014 and only promoted to the Premier League in 2021, the club’s early days were marked by struggle. This season began just as poorly, with only one win in their first eight games. But things turned after the club hired Burundian coach Etienne Ndayiragije on November 29, 2024. Although he lost his debut match to AFC Leopards, what followed was magical — 13 matches unbeaten, including 10 wins and 3 draws. Police ended the season with 18 wins, 11 draws, and just 5 defeats — an impressive turnaround from mid-table mediocrity to champions. A Captain’s Tears, A Nation’s Applause Veteran defender and captain David “Cheche” Ochieng’ couldn’t hold back tears after lifting the trophy — his first in 13 years, since winning the title with Tusker FC in 2012. “This is all God. I’ve waited long for this. I dedicate this win to my mother — our strongest pillar,” said a deeply moved Ochieng’. Coach Ndayiragije also praised his players and staff for showing resilience and discipline through the tough stretches. Eyes on Africa Now With the league now in the bag, Kenya Police FC will shift focus to the CAF Champions League, set to begin in the 2025/26 season. This marks their debut on the continental stage — a major leap for a club that, not long ago, was struggling to stay afloat. From luxury limousines to gritty comebacks, Police FC’s season had it all. And now, they march into Africa not just with medals — but with a statement. The new sheriffs of Kenyan football have arrived.
