Bunge la Mwananchi President Gaucho Hospitalized After Alleged Attack

  • He was assaulted on Tuesday while headed to Raila’s Kamukunji rally

Bunge la Wananchi President, Calvin Okoth, also known as Gaucho, has been hospitalized following an alleged attack. Gaucho took to his Facebook page to inform his followers about the incident, revealing that he was assaulted on Tuesday while en route to Raila’s Kamukunji rally.

In his Facebook post, Gaucho stated, “Yesterday, I was ambushed by an unidentified group of armed individuals on my way to the Kamukunji rally. Despite sustaining severe injuries, I managed to escape. Currently, I am receiving treatment in the hospital.”

Kenyans expressed their sympathies for Gaucho and wished him a speedy recovery. Meanwhile, on the same day, Raila Odinga, the leader of the Azimio movement, conducted a consultative meeting at Kamukunji.

Numerous Azimio leaders and supporters attended the gathering, during which Raila discussed the next course of action.

Gaucho recently voiced his dissatisfaction with the treatment he received within the Azimio coalition after his arrest. He claimed that no one bothered to secure his release.

Expressing his concerns, Gaucho emphasized the importance of successful bipartisan negotiations. He explained that if the talks failed and protests were resumed, he might not be able to participate due to the unfair treatment he had experienced.

Following his arrest by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on charges of causing disturbance, Gaucho was brought before the Kiambu Law Courts. He pleaded not guilty and was subsequently granted a Sh20,000 bond or Sh5,000 cash bail.

The DCI stated, “Calvin Okoth Otieno, known as ‘Gaucho,’ appeared before the Kiambu Law Courts on charges of creating disturbance, as per section 95 (1)(b) of the penal code.

The accused pleaded not guilty and was released on a bond of Sh20,000 or a cash bail of Sh5,000.”
