This initiative aims to bring about a transformation in the Boda Boda sector by providing training, formalization, and improved coordination for motorcycle taxi operators.

The Boda Boda sector, which has long been an integral part of transportation in Kenya, is set to undergo a significant overhaul with the first phase of this program. Over the next few months, 200,000 riders drawn from all 47 counties will undergo comprehensive training to enhance their skills and professionalism.

During the launch, President Ruto highlighted the importance of empowering Boda Boda riders and recognizing their contribution to the economy. He emphasized the need for formalization and the establishment of Boda Boda Saccos as a means of fostering accountability and coordination within the sector.

The Boda Boda Empowerment Program seeks to address various challenges faced by Boda Boda operators. By providing structured training, the program aims to improve road safety, customer service, and overall professionalism. This initiative will equip riders with essential skills and knowledge, enabling them to provide better and safer transportation services to the public.

Johnson Sakaja, an advocate for the rights and welfare of Boda Boda riders, expressed his support for the program and commended the efforts of President Ruto in recognizing the sector’s significance.

Sakaja noted that formalizing Boda Boda operators into Saccos would not only ensure better coordination but also create opportunities for financial inclusion and access to credit.
