BBC News Africa has announced the acquisition of Kenyan journalist Waihiga Mwaura as the new presenter of Focus on Africa TV in Nairobi.
In a post on Twitter, the news organization expressed their excitement at having the “talented” journalist on board, describing him as a “respected journalist” and a “former winner of the prestigious BBC News Komla Dumor award.”

Mwaura, who recently announced his departure from Citizen TV after 14 years, expressed his enthusiasm for the new role and his eagerness to work with the BBC team. The move is seen as a significant boost to the BBC’s coverage of Africa, as Mwaura’s extensive experience covering stories across the continent is expected to bring a new perspective to the team.
The BBC News Komla Dumor award, which Mwaura won in 2018, is an annual competition that honours exceptional African journalists who have made an outstanding contribution to the profession. The award is named after the late Komla Dumor, a Ghanaian journalist who worked for the BBC World Service and who passed away in 2014.

Mwaura’s move to the BBC follows in the footsteps of other successful African journalists who have made a name for themselves at the international news organization.
