Ksh 373 million: The amount Victor Wanyama will lose after leaving the USA League.

Kenyan international Victor Wanyama announced he will be leaving Canadian side CF Montreal when this season folds, brining to an end a three year stint at the Major League Soccer (MLS) side.

Wanyama joined Montreal in 2020 after falling down the pecking order at Premier League side Tottenham. He was touted to join more established club in Europe’s Big 5 leagues – a return to Southampton or Celtic was discussed – but he ended up in Quebec where he has made 79 appearances, 77 as starts, scoring 5 goals and contributing 7 assists.

Wanyama confirmed he is not hanging his boots yet when his contract at the club ends in December.

He said, “At the end of the season I will be free to leave, but as long as I am here I will remain focused and make sure that we finish well, and from there I will have a chance to say goodbye.

“It is not about me. We will see. I don’t want to speak much because I don’t know what’s going on, I am focused on our weekend game and after the playoffs, we will see what happens.”

According to the MLS, Wanyama has been earning Ksh24 million a month, translating to Ksh290 million a year. This is in addition to Ksh 373 million he earns as an annual guaranteed compensation.
