After graduation, Kainerugaba returned to Uganda and joined the country’s elite special forces unit, the Special Forces Command (SFC). He quickly rose through the ranks, becoming a major general at just 35 years old. Now, as the commander of the SFC, Kainerugaba is responsible for protecting Uganda from a variety of threats, both internal and external. He’s also widely seen as a potential successor to his father as president of Uganda. Who is Muhozi Kainerugaba?

Muhoozi Kainerugaba is the son of Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni. He is a Lieutenant General in the Ugandan People’s Defence Force (UPDF) and currently serves as the Commander of the Special Forces Command (SFC).

He was born on February 16, 1974, in Nakasero Hospital, Kampala. He attended Kyebambe Girls’ Secondary School for his O-Level studies and later transferred to Ntare School for his A-Levels. In 1991, he joined Makerere University where he studied Social Sciences and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science. He also holds a Master’s degree in International Relations from the Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.

General Kainerugaba has served in various capacities in the UPDF. He was appointed as the Commander of the SFC in 2013. Under his leadership, the SFC has been actively involved in counterterrorism operations against the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) and other armed groups operating in Uganda.
