Uganda, Tanzania plan joint Afcon bid as Kenya wrangles on

Uganda and Tanzanian Football Associations are holding discussions on a possible bid to host the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations as neighbors Kenya continue to show the way on how not to manage football.

Ugandan football journalist Cephas Tendereza reports that a first joint meeting between the Governments and Football Associations of Tanzania and Uganda has taken place as both countries seek to prepare and present a joint co-hosting bid to the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for the Total Energies Africa Cup of Nations in 2027.

Ugandan president Yoweri Museveni has reportedly given the go ahead to the country’s sports bosses to push on with the plan.

The two countries have been letting the game be played on the pitch unlike Kenya where politics has taken over, prompting Fifa to ban the country from international football.

The East African region nations however have to address infrastructural challenges as they both need to upgrade at least three stadiums before then.

They will also need to beat Botswana and Namibia who have also a agreed to co-bid for the biennial tournament.

The 2023 and 2025 AFCON tournaments will be staged in Ivory Coast and Guinea respectively.
