Former Kenyan Premier League champions Sofapaka FC have announced the return of experienced keeper Mathias Kigonya on a long term contract.
“We are glad to have agreed a deal to acquire the services of Uganda cranes custodian Mathias Kigonya on a long-term contract. Kigonya, who is back at the club after leaving four years ago, is expected to bring much-needed experience to our goalkeeping department.He rejoins the club from Tanzanian side Azam Football Club”, Sofapaka announced via their social media handles.
The Ugandan international returns to Batoto Ba Mungu four years later after stints with Kakamega Homeboyz FC, Forest Rangers FC and Azam FC.
His comeback is set to give stiff competition to Kevin Omondi and Simon Masaka who are the current custodians in the team.
The 26 year old is among the new players recruited by coach David Ouma. Others include Kenyan international defender Samuel Ouma Olwande, David Kasiyre, Baron Oketch, Kevin Okoth, Raphael Asudi, Ben Stanley and Lucky Musyoka both from Kariobangi Sharks FC, KCCA (Uganda), Biashara United FC (Tanzania), Tusker FC, Bidco United FC and Migori Youth FC respectively.
Others who have been acquired by the 2009 KPL winners are teenage duo of goalkeeper David Obasanjo and Maqbul Ocholla from Dagoretti High School.
