President Ruto Goes after Atwoli and NSSF

Cotu Secretary General Francis Atwoli was one of Raila Odinga’s steadfast supporters during the 2022 election campaigns, so much so that he gave Kenyans the ‘soea’ slogan which is being used to date.

Atwoli, while on a TV interview repeatedly said ‘soea hio sauti,’ urging Kenyans to get used to Raila Odinga’s voice as he would definitely be the next president.

As they say, the rest is history.

Dr. Atwoli, a record fourth time Member of the International Labour Organization, ILO, was bitterly made to eat back his words as Dr. Ruto beat all odds to win the presidency.

He went ahead to congratulate the president elect and assured that his team will work with the new administration to advance the interests of workers.

However, President Ruto seems not too willing to accept the bait. In his latest statement on Cotu, the President says: “It is not possible for us to continue contributing Sh200 to NSSF and pretend that we are saving. It is not saving; it is a joke.”

President Ruto is believed to be in favor of a Ksh 6000 per month saving scheme which some quarters say is beyond a majority of Kenyans, especially with the ongoing high cost of living.
