Azimio La Umoja Brigade was bad news for a Likoni Trader who had been doing well with Mitumba business for years.

How to Start a Mitumba Business in Kenya in 2020

John Mwasaru, a Likoni resident from Mwananzia, has been doing the mitumba business for many years.

The 32-year-old tailor lost his work, and his efforts to find another one were in vain.

John chose to enter the mitumba selling company in early 2017, specializing in ladies’ tops and blouses, because he already had an extensive understanding of women’s clothing tastes.

‘January is a month of diverse financial troubles,’ as they say, and John’s business did not flourish.

“At first, I could only sell a maximum of 10 shirts every day.” “Business was slow, and I considered resigning,” he claimed.

However, his company has grown. John, a well-known ladies’ top seller on Likoni’s streets, has managed to grow his clientele in less than two years.

“Many ladies adore me because of my reasonable charges.” Only KES50 gets you a shirt. “Because it is fair to practically everyone,” he explained, “it has drawn more consumers.”

When you choose to be unique in the business arena

Because his customers are dispersed around the neighbourhood, John does not have a store and instead provides door-to-door service.

Mwasaru spends KES20 on one shirt. This allows him to profit from KES30 each top. He can sell up to 100 jerseys on a good day. Furthermore, the businessman sells an average of 75 pieces every day. After deducting his daily costs, John takes home KES2,000 per day.

“The money I make in this business is three times what I made in my former job.” My clients have been pressuring me to open a shop, and I aim to do so before the end of the year. This will allow me to expand my goods selection and, perhaps, attract more customers,” he said.

The money has let him assist his single mother and younger sister in Voi.

Raila’s comment on the Mitumba industry.

“Our people are only wearing mitumba, clothes that are coming outside the country, that are worn by people who are dead. We are going to go to primary production so that our people who are importing mitumba can have a good product to sell here.” Learn more: https://www.k24tv.co.ke/news/what-raila-said-on-mitumba-business-65738/
