KCB Women Volleyball are the new African Women Volleyball Club Championship champions after a scintillating 3-1 win in Tunisia over Al Ahly SC of Egypt.
KCB become the first Kenyan club to win the title after a decade, since 2013 when Kenya Prisons won it in Nigeria and their second time since 2006.
The Banker’s started on a high note winning the first and second set 25-18, 25-22 before losing the third set to the Egyptian side 25-11. The final set was the toughest of it all as the two sides surpassed each other at intervals before KCB sealing it at 28-26 after a marvelous spike from Kenya international Edith Wisa, the game ending 3-1 in favor of the Kenyan giants.
Apart from just ending the 16 year drought of the continental title, KCB scooped up medals and trophies for individual player’s who were outstanding during the campaign in Tunisia. Sharon Kiprono was voted as the Most Valuable Player (MVP), team captain Mercy Moim winning the Best Outside Hitter as Edith Wisa grabbing the Best Middle Blocker.
Two teams from Kenya managed to finish in the last three with Kenya Pipeline Corporation finish at third place after seeing off CFC of Tunisia 3-0 in the playoffs. Kenya Pipeline’s star Veronica Oluoch was voted in as the Best Outside Hitter as well.
