Crested Cranes who are the host are pooled in group A alongside neighbors Rwanda, Burundi and Djibouti while group B has 2019 finalists Kilimanjaro startles (Tanzania), Zanzibar, South Sudan and Ethiopia.

The 2022 CECAFA Women Championships edition will have a new champion at the end of the tourney as defending champions Harambee Starlets (Kenya) won’t be participating in the fixture due to the suspension that was subjected to Kenya by the world football governing body (FIFA) in February 2022.

Kenya won the 2019 edition that was hosted in Dar Es Salaam in the final beating Serengeti Queen’s (Tanzania) 2-0 in the final .
