Vihiga Queen’s FC defender Phoebe Oketch has been voted as the best player of the month (January) in the Kenya Women Premier League (KWPL).
Oketch has been instrumental in helping the Queens of Vihiga defensively, with her outstanding performance assisting the team to top the league.
“I’m grateful for winning this award. This is a big motivation to me,” she noted, adding that she is looking forward to finishing the league on a high end despite being the champions already.
“I also appreciate the support of my teammates and the technical bench for their immense efforts because without them I wouldn’t have won.
I am now looking forward to helping my team finish the season on a high level, with the target being to finish unbeaten so that we can also make it in the Gala Awards team of the season,” added the Harambee starlets no nonsense stopper.
Vihiga Queen’s FC head coach Boniface Nyamunyamu was appreciative of KEFWA for the initiative, which he noted has upscaled the league’s competitiveness among players.
“I want to thank KEFWA for coming up with this noble idea of awarding the best players in KWPL. It is encouraging not only to the current players but even thousands of other girls who are aspiring to play football at a professional level,” said the tactician.
Oketch walked home with a personalized trophy and a cheque of Ksh. 10,000.
