Vihiga United FC players are in sad state after going for six months without receiving salaries despite the club receiving full sponsorship from the County government of Vihiga.
In an interview with KenyanTrend, a member of the playing unit who’s name is withheld for privacy reasons, the player revealed that some of the players in the team have not received any of their salaries since December 2021 despite the club getting monthly grants from the FKF Caretaker Committee as the 9 year old club features in the Kenya’s second tier league, National Super League (NSL).
“We’ve not been paid any of our dues since December and it’s six months now, last month the club management received grants from the FKF Caretaker Committee and when we asked for our salaries, they told us the money was used to clear all the debts that the team was being owed”, said a Vihiga United player.
The sad part of the story is that senior players who have a long spell with the club are paid secretly but when the others who have not been long with the team raise the complain to the management, they are threatened to be released from the club.
“We have families at home who depend on us from this game, we have to pay bills out here and how can that be possible if we won’t get the fruits of the services we offer here?” We need the County government to explain to us why they haven’t paid us in the last six months.
Vihiga United FC which is coached by former Harambee stars player Mike Mururi features was relegated to the National Super League from the FKFPL at the end of last season and play their home matches at Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega county.
