Kimiti Wanjaria made news for the very first time when Forbes named him one of Africa’s Top -30 Under 30 businessmen for a multimillion-shilling real estate investment in Kiambu that was being built by a firm in which he had stakes.
Narrative of a Young Multimillionaire Investor
Kimiti was born into an entrepreneurial family, and his parents, Christopher Kimiti and Josephine Wanjaria encouraged him to start his own business when he was young.
Wanjaria, a bright student who purposefully received a B plus to avoid qualifying for a prestigious degree such as law, medicine, or engineering, had always aspired to be an entrepreneur.
“Mum, I’m not going to be defined by my degree.” He further said, “I shall select whom I will become.”
The ambitious young guy enrolled in evening classes to pursue an Information technology degree so that he could do anything he wanted during the day.
When he completed his secondary school studies while still a teenager, his parents entrusted him with the supervision of their educational institution, Jossy Schools.
By the time he started his first company at the age of 21, Wanjaria had worked as an insurance broker, in a law firm, and as the director of The Jossy Schools, an educational institution. Unlike many graduates looking for jobs, he thought he was cut out for business after graduation.
When he was 21, he desired freedom, so he began seeking for solutions to support him in walking his path. Before creating Serene Valley Properties Limited with Kahara, he ran several businesses.
Wanjaria was only a young man at the time, but he was a visionary. With his business partner, Ian Kahara, he had opted to take on the titans of the capital-intensive real estate market and achieve something unusual for people his age.
With the 4 acres they acquired from Kahara’s grandmother, they created Serene Valley Properties Limited and erected 30 residences for KES 350 million along Waiyaki Way near the Sigona Golf Club.

“They told we may try again after 15 years.” “Why should we wait until we’re 60 to do something we can do now?” we questioned as a group. Wanjaria revealed how he made it in Africa in an interview with the internet website How We Made It In Africa.
He formed a real estate business with two other friends because he wanted to succeed in life. They established Serene Valley Properties.
The first thing they had to do was buy a four-acre block of land on Nairobi’s Waiyaki Way. They had grand ideas to develop new homes for the middle class here, but they lacked the necessary cash.
Due to their youth and lack of experience in the fast-paced real estate business, the trio pitched their idea to various banks for finance, but the lenders were unwilling to give them the millions they required.
But there is a way when there is a will. Finally, a lender decided to work with them and contributed KES 350 million. When the project first started, it piqued the interest of potential customers.
