  • OpenAI has introduced ChatGPT for Financial Services, a specialised product for financial institutions.
  • The platform is initially focused on investment banking and equity research.
  • It combines AI reasoning with financial data from providers including Daloopa, PitchBook and LSEG News.
  • The tool can assist with earnings analysis, valuation work, financial modelling, buyer screening and pitchbook preparation.
  • OpenAI says the service is currently available to eligible financial institutions.

OpenAI has launched a new version of ChatGPT designed specifically for financial services teams, expanding the company’s push to build AI tools for specialised professional work. The product, called ChatGPT for Financial Services, is aimed initially at investment banking and equity research teams.

The platform is designed to bring research, financial analysis and document creation into a single workflow. According to OpenAI, professionals can use it for tasks including earnings analysis, valuation work, financial modelling, buyer screening and preparation of client materials.

The launch follows design work with financial institutions including Morgan Stanley and Evercore, which helped OpenAI identify areas where AI could reduce the amount of manual research and preparation required by banking teams.

Financial Data Built Into the Platform

A major feature of the new service is access to financial data from providers including Daloopa, PitchBook and LSEG News. OpenAI says the information covers areas such as earnings transcripts, financial statements, company fundamentals and private companies.

The data is indexed and hosted on OpenAI infrastructure, allowing the platform to retrieve information and provide more detailed citations. Users can trace figures and claims to specific tables or passages in source material, making it easier to review the evidence behind an analysis.

For analysts, this could simplify work that traditionally involves moving between financial databases, company filings, spreadsheets and internal documents. The system can then help turn that information into research notes, models, presentations and other work products.

From Earnings Analysis to Financial Modelling

OpenAI says the product can work across several common financial workflows. These include analysing company earnings, conducting valuation analysis, building and updating financial models and screening potential buyers.

The platform can also transform analysis into documents and presentations using firm-specific templates. Administrators can publish Excel, Word and PowerPoint templates alongside company style guides, allowing teams to produce work in established formats.

The approach is intended to reduce time spent on repetitive preparation while allowing finance professionals to concentrate more heavily on interpretation, judgement and client work.

Security and Governance Remain a Key Focus

Financial institutions handle sensitive information, including confidential company data and material non-public information. OpenAI says ChatGPT for Financial Services includes enterprise security and governance features designed for those requirements.

The product supports controls including SAML single sign-on, SCIM provisioning and role-based access. OpenAI also says customer business data is not used to train its models by default, while information is encrypted both at rest and in transit.

The company has also stressed that the service is intended to support financial research rather than replace professional judgement. Its financial-services terms state that outputs are for informational purposes and may be inaccurate, incomplete, delayed or outdated.

OpenAI Enters a Competitive Financial AI Market

The launch places OpenAI deeper into a financial technology market where established data providers and other technology companies are developing AI tools for banks, asset managers and analysts.

Financial institutions have increasingly explored generative AI for research, data analysis, document preparation and other workflows. OpenAI’s latest product seeks to combine those capabilities with specialised financial data and tools rather than requiring professionals to assemble separate systems.

For now, OpenAI says ChatGPT for Financial Services is available to eligible financial institutions. The company is inviting interested firms to contact its sales team or their existing OpenAI account teams.
