Comedian and radio presenter MCA Tricky has publicly disputed reports that he voluntarily left Milele FM, saying the station dismissed him while he was in Germany pursuing a Master’s degree.
The entertainer, whose real name is Francis Munyao, made the revelation during an appearance on the Tubonge podcast hosted by former colleague Chris The Baze.
Tricky said he was surprised by media reports suggesting that he had resigned after six years at the Mediamax Network-owned station.
“I don’t know why the media chose to say that I walked away, but let me be honest, I did not walk away, they fired me,” he said during the podcast.
His comments offer a different version of events from earlier reports that portrayed his departure as a disagreement with management over time away from work for studies.
The comedian explained that he had requested a short period of unpaid leave to attend a three-month engineering exchange programme in Germany.
Tricky is a trained mechatronics engineer and said the trip was part of his ongoing Master’s degree studies. According to him, he informed Milele FM about the opportunity and submitted the required documents, including his invitation letter.
He said he expected to return to his radio duties once the programme ended.
While still in Germany, Tricky said he received an email informing him that his employment had been terminated.
“I will be honest. I didn’t walk away… They fired me,” he reiterated.
According to the comedian, the email stated that the company was experiencing financial losses because of his absence from the station’s morning show.
Tricky said the termination was unexpected because he had not intended to leave Milele FM permanently.
He explained that management indicated his absence was affecting revenue generated by the morning show, and that this became the basis for ending his employment while he was abroad.
The comedian also addressed claims that he had moved permanently to Germany after leaving the station.
Tricky clarified that he remains based in Nairobi and has since shifted his focus to producing independent digital content. He said the Germany trip was purely academic and not part of a relocation plan.
During his six-year stint at Milele FM, Tricky became one of the station’s well-known presenters, combining comedy with radio broadcasting and building a strong audience among listeners.
Despite the circumstances surrounding his exit, the entertainer said he remains grateful for the opportunity the station gave him.
His remarks have reignited discussion about employment practices in the media industry and the challenges presenters face when balancing professional commitments with further education.
