The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission has rolled out a new recruitment drive targeting Kenyans interested in supporting upcoming by-elections.
The commission is seeking individuals to fill several short-term roles, including ward and constituency voter educators, presiding officers, deputy presiding officers, support electoral trainers, and polling and counting clerks.
This hiring push comes as the commission continues preparations to ensure smooth electoral processes across the country.
Key Qualifications for Applicants
Candidates applying for voter education roles must hold at least a diploma in areas such as social sciences, education, or project management. In addition, they are required to have at least three years of experience in community engagement, voter awareness, or related work within their local areas.
For positions such as presiding officers, deputies, and support trainers, the commission requires a diploma or degree from a recognised institution. Applicants must also be computer-literate and demonstrate strong leadership and training skills, as these roles involve managing polling stations and guiding teams.
Meanwhile, those interested in clerk positions need a minimum KCSE grade of C- and must show high integrity and political neutrality.
The commission has outlined clear pay rates for the temporary roles. Presiding officers, their deputies, and support trainers will earn KSh2,000 per day. Polling and counting clerks will receive KSh1,000 per day.
Successful applicants are expected to be available throughout the entire election period, as these roles require full commitment during training and polling days.
Application Process Explained
Interested candidates are required to submit their applications online through the IEBC recruitment portal. Applicants should first create an account if they do not already have one, then select the by-election job category to access available roles.
After reviewing job descriptions, candidates must complete and submit their applications before the April 4 deadline at 11:59 p.m. Late submissions will not be considered.
The recruitment exercise is part of IEBC’s wider effort to strengthen election management and public trust. By engaging trained personnel at the grassroots level, the commission aims to improve voter education, streamline polling operations, and enhance accountability.
With the deadline fast approaching, qualified Kenyans are being urged to apply early and ensure all required details are correctly submitted.
