  • Supporters of Soy United Club are walking 350km from Likuyani to Nairobi to raise funds.
  • The club, founded in 2017, is struggling to meet operational and logistics costs.
  • Soy United is known for developing players who advance to the top Kenyan leagues.
  • Officials say the team needs about KSh 20 million annually to run smoothly.
  • Plans are underway for a bus fundraising drive in May to support long-term stability.

In a rare show of loyalty, supporters of Soy United Club have embarked on a 350-kilometre journey to Nairobi, determined to secure the future of their team.

The walk, which began in Soy, Likuyani Constituency, aims to raise funds and draw national attention to the club’s financial struggles. For the fans, this is more than a campaign; it is a mission to protect a team that has shaped many young careers.

Since its establishment in 2017, Soy United has grown into a respected platform for nurturing football talent. Many players who started at the club have gone on to feature in the Kenyan top flight and other competitive leagues.

Despite operating with limited resources, the club has earned a reputation as a stepping stone for aspiring footballers, especially from Western Kenya. Its role in youth development continues to stand out even as financial challenges persist.

Club chairman Edwin Ayiro revealed that the team requires close to KSh 20 million annually to meet its needs. These include player salaries, travel, and other logistical demands, especially as the National Super League season reaches a crucial stage.

Previously, the club depended heavily on its patron, but this season saw new support from Mozzart Bet. However, officials say the sponsorship alone is not enough to cover all expenses in the increasingly demanding league environment.

The ongoing walk is just one part of a broader strategy to stabilise the club. Organisers have already announced plans for a major bus fundraising drive scheduled for May, aimed at boosting transport and operational capacity.

Supporters hope the current initiative will attract partners, leaders, and well-wishers willing to invest in the club’s future.

For the community, Soy United represents more than a team; it is a symbol of opportunity and hope. The 350km trek highlights the deep connection between the club and its supporters, who are willing to go the extra mile, literally, to keep it alive.

With growing attention around their effort, there is renewed belief that collective support can help the club overcome its challenges and continue shaping the next generation of football talent.
