  • President William Ruto has sent condolences and promised support to affected families.

Several players from Women’s National Super League side Lowland Starlets FC are recovering after being involved in a road accident on Sunday morning.

The team was on its way to Bunyore for a scheduled league match when their bus overturned along the Chepilat–Chabera Highway near Chepilat trading centre in Bomet County.

Early reports indicate that at least 13 individuals, including players and members of the technical bench, were injured in the incident.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and quickly transported the injured to Kaplong Hospital.

Among those affected, at least ten players suffered injuries of varying degrees as medical teams worked to stabilise them.

The accident disrupted the team’s planned fixture against Bunyore Starlets, with concern now shifting to the condition and recovery of those involved.

Separate Nyeri Accident Leaves 15 Dead

In a different incident, tragedy struck along the Nyeri–Nyahururu highway, where 15 people lost their lives in a serious road crash.

The accident occurred near Dedan Kimathi University of Technology and involved a 14-seater matatu and a truck transporting logs.

Reports show that the matatu was heading towards Mweiga from Nyeri town when it collided head-on with the oncoming lorry.

Preliminary findings suggest the truck driver attempted to avoid hitting a motorcycle, leading to the fatal crash.

Four passengers died instantly at the scene, while others succumbed to injuries after being taken to Nyeri County Referral Hospital.

Several survivors remain admitted in hospitals across Nyeri County.

President Ruto Sends Message of Condolence

Following the incident, William Ruto expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives.

He extended sympathy to bereaved families and wished a quick recovery to those injured.

The President also confirmed that the national government is working closely with county authorities to support affected families during this difficult period.

The two incidents have once again raised concern over road safety across the country.

As investigations continue, authorities are expected to review the circumstances surrounding both accidents while families and teams begin the difficult process of recovery.
