What was meant to be a season of love has turned into pain and uncertainty for Steve Godia, a third-year student at Multimedia University. The young man is currently fighting for recovery in a city hospital after an alleged violent attack at his rented house in Umoja 1 Estate, Nairobi.
According to Godia, the incident took place on the night before Valentine’s Day. He says he had agreed to meet his girlfriend to resolve tensions in their relationship. Instead, the discussion allegedly ended in a brutal assault that left him with severe burns.
Godia claims the confrontation began when his girlfriend questioned him about a past relationship. He says she felt his explanation was not satisfactory and believed he was being disrespectful.
Moments later, he alleges she boiled water and poured it on his face. The pain was immediate and intense. By morning, he says his face was badly swollen, his eyes were shut, and he could barely see.
“It was my girlfriend who burnt me because she felt my explanation was not enough,” he said from his hospital bed.
Beyond the physical injuries, Godia says he also suffered financial loss. He claims the suspect took his two mobile phones and transferred KSh 318,000 from his account, leaving him with only KSh 7.
CCTV cameras reportedly captured the woman leaving the premises shortly after the alleged attack. Godia has identified her as Gladwell Kagai, someone he says he had known and trusted for three years.
The matter was reported to the police and is being investigated as attempted murder and grievous assault. However, ten days after the incident, the suspect had not yet been arrested, raising concern for Godia and his family.
He says the trauma has also disrupted his studies, forcing him to miss university exams as he focuses on treatment and recovery.
Godia is now calling for swift action from authorities, hoping the suspect will be arrested and presented before the court as investigations continue.
