American influencer and YouTube livestream star iShowSpeed continued his Kenyan tour on Sunday with a visit to the Mukuru Affordable Housing Project, one of the government’s key urban renewal programmes under the “Speed Does Africa” tour.

The stop added a development-focused angle to his trip, drawing fresh attention to Kenya’s affordable housing push and sparking online conversations among fans and observers.

Also known as the Mukuru Boma Yangu Estate, the project is designed to transform former informal settlements into planned, modern neighbourhoods.

So far, over 4,500 families have already received keys to new homes at the site. President William Ruto officially handed over the completed units in December 2025, marking a major milestone for the programme.

In videos shared by the Kenya Tourism Board (KTB) and widely circulated online, iShowSpeed was seen walking through the estate, greeting residents, youths, and project staff.

The reception was lively, with locals eager to welcome the global star and share their stories. Earlier, KTB had confirmed Speed’s arrival in Kenya and encouraged citizens to suggest cultural and development sites for him to explore.

The Mukuru project falls under the government’s Affordable Housing Programme, a central pillar of President Ruto’s Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).

The plan aims to deliver tens of thousands of housing units in Nairobi and other urban areas, easing congestion and replacing unsafe living conditions in informal settlements.

Beyond homes, the Mukuru estate includes key social facilities meant to support daily life and safety. These include a police station, a fire station, and a hospital, ensuring residents have access to essential services.

During last year’s handover, President Ruto described the project as a step toward restoring dignity, saying decent housing is about more than shelter is about safety, pride, and opportunity.
