  • Deputy Governor Magwanga says Governor Wanga is behind an ongoing impeachment plan.
  • He vows to face the motion and threatens to launch a counter-impeachment if it fails.
  • The tensions began before the Kasipul by-election after Magwanga backed an independent candidate.

Internal divisions in Homa Bay County have widened following the Kasipul by-elections. Deputy Governor Oyugi Magwanga now claims that Governor Gladys Wanga is engineering a plan to remove him from office.

Speaking during an NTV interview on December 5, 2025, Magwanga said a formal impeachment motion has already been drafted at the County Assembly.

“They want to impeach me, and I am calling on them to bring it. We shall see how it ends,” he stated.

Magwanga warned that if attempts to remove him fail, he will begin his own process targeting the governor.

“Should it fail, I will also begin mine. She knows me, and I know her,” he added.

The deputy governor says the relationship with Wanga deteriorated long before the Kasipul poll. He supported independent candidate Philip Aroko rather than ODM’s Boyd Were, a decision he claims sparked political tension.

According to Magwanga, problems escalated during the August devolution conference hosted in Homa Bay, where he felt his office was publicly sidelined.

“During DevCon, the Governor ignored me but recognised her husband and the Majority Leader. That showed I have no role in the County Government,” he said.

After the by-elections, Governor Wanga made changes to her cabinet, removing Magwanga from his role as the CECM for Agriculture. Since then, he says his access to his office has been cut off.

He claims his office was locked on December 1, 2025, and that hired individuals were stationed to prevent him from entering.

Governor Wanga’s alleged treatment of her deputy has drawn criticism from various groups, including Luo elders, who have accused her of mishandling the situation and fueling unnecessary division.

The political row continues to unsettle county leadership, with both factions preparing for a possible showdown in the coming days.
