Former US President Donald Trump praised Kenya’s dominance in global athletics during an event in Washington, DC. He made the comments on Thursday when acknowledging President William Ruto at the signing of the DRC–Rwanda peace agreement.
Trump said Kenya’s long-distance runners have impressed him for many years.
He joked about the country’s unmatched talent and said the United States will host Kenya as a guest during the 2028 Olympic Games.
“We have the Olympics here in the USA in 2028 in Los Angeles, and you (Kenya) are very well represented in the Olympics. Those runners are good. I don’t know what you do with them, but they are excellent. I have been watching them for a long time. The Olympics are coming to the United States, and you will come as a guest,” Trump said.
The 2028 Olympic Games will take place in Los Angeles, and Kenya will be looking to increase its medal tally.
Kenya won four gold medals in the last edition held in Paris in 2024. The team aims to perform even better in 2028, particularly in long-distance events, where the country has established a strong reputation.
