- ODM to hold a Central Committee meeting on Monday, chaired by acting leader Dr Oburu Odinga.
- The meeting will focus on by-elections, ODM@20 celebrations, and updates on the 10-point agenda with the UDA.
- Comes amid growing speculation of a Cabinet reshuffle by President William Ruto.
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has called for an urgent Central Committee meeting set for Monday, as political tension rises over a possible Cabinet reshuffle by President William Ruto.
ODM Deputy Party Leader and Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Nassir announced the meeting on Thursday, October 23, stating it will be chaired by acting ODM leader Dr Oburu Odinga.
According to Governor Nassir, the meeting will focus on three key issues: the upcoming by-elections, ODM’s 20th anniversary celebrations, and updates on the 10-point agenda jointly signed between ODM and the UDA Party.
“There will be a meeting on Monday, chaired by Dr Oburu Odinga, who is the acting party leader. The agenda will include the upcoming by-elections, the ODM 20th anniversary, and an update on the progress of the ten issues we agreed with the government,” said Governor Nassir.
He emphasised that the party remains committed to upholding Raila Odinga’s legacy by ensuring success in the coming by-elections and following through on the joint reform agenda with the government.
Nassir further revealed that after the Central Committee meeting, ODM will convene a Parliamentary Group session to address internal disputes and chart a unified political path.
“After the Central Committee has met, we will convene ODM Members of Parliament, Senators, and Governors together with the party leadership so that we can agree on the direction we should take,” he added.
The planned ODM meeting comes as political speculation intensifies around President Ruto’s anticipated Cabinet reshuffle. Reports suggest that several key ministries could see new appointments following fresh political negotiations involving former rivals.
Analysts view the reshuffle as part of Ruto’s strategy to broaden his government by incorporating leaders from other political formations, including ODM and KANU.
The speculation deepened after Ruto’s recent political pact with KANU chairman Gideon Moi, signalling a possible return of the Moi family to government influence.
Observers believe the reshuffle could serve both as a reward for loyalty and a gesture to appease new allies, potentially shifting the balance of political power.
ODM’s Monday meeting is therefore seen as a strategic preemptive move to align its internal position and prepare for the unfolding political realignments ahead of any formal announcements from State House.
