Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Youth League politician Kasmuel McOure has called on Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to resign from his role as Secretary-General if he feels the party no longer represents his principles.
Speaking on Tuesday, October 21, McOure dared Sifuna to step aside and allow those loyal to ODM’s ideals to lead.
“Edwin Sifuna, if you think you are man enough, and ODM is too retrogressive for you, then resign from the mandate you were given,” said McOure.
McOure also cautioned those seeking to fill the political space left by the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, insisting that ODM is now under the guidance of Senator Oburu Odinga, Raila’s elder brother.
“You cannot inherit Raila’s position. ODM is now firmly under the leadership of Senator Oburu Odinga,” he said.
He added that the party remains strong and should rally behind Oburu’s leadership for years to come.
“The ODM party will be around for the next 20 years, but now it has to be under the firm leadership of Senator Oburu Odinga,” McOure emphasised.
McOure paid an emotional tribute to Raila, thanking him for his mentorship and political guidance.
“I am Baba’s son. I have been extremely privileged to have met Baba, learned under him, and served him as his Secretary-General for eight years. I will eternally be grateful for the opportunity you gave me,” he said.
He reflected on their many political journeys together, expressing deep sorrow over Raila’s passing.
In his remarks, Senator Sifuna maintained that ODM will not play second fiddle to any other political outfit as the country heads toward the 2027 elections.
He dismissed claims that ODM had agreed to support President William Ruto’s re-election, clarifying that the party’s official position remains as declared by Raila before his death.
“Baba Raila Odinga spoke openly to the country on September 22. He said ODM must prepare for the 2027 General Election. To those spreading false statements, Baba wondered where you got that from,” Sifuna said.
ODM now faces an internal test balancing loyalty to Raila’s legacy while defining its future direction under new leadership.
