A routine court session in Busia was brought to an abrupt halt Tuesday when a man stormed the courtroom and reportedly “punished” a presiding judge over what he claimed was an unfair and illegal ruling, witnesses said.
The unusual incident unfolded shortly after 10 a.m. at the Busia Magistrates’ Court, where the accused, identified as Moses Ouma, interrupted proceedings by shouting that “justice had gone blind.” Court staff and police officers said Ouma jumped over the railing separating the gallery from the bench and confronted Magistrate Peter Wekesa.
“People thought it was a protest at first,” said Sarah Nanjala, a court clerk who witnessed the scene. “Then he started throwing files into the air and calling the judge a betrayer of the poor.”
Security personnel quickly restrained Ouma as the judge fled the courtroom. No serious injuries were reported, though the event left court operations suspended for several hours as police investigated the motive.
