Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has been celebrated on the global stage after receiving a Leadership Excellence Award from the United Nations International Peace and Governance Council (UNIPGC) and the Jewel Howard Taylor Leadership Program.
The event, held on September 26, 2025, at the prestigious House of Lords in London, also saw Sonko awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Leadership and Governance by the American University of Peace and Governance in the USA.
Confirming the honour, Sonko said he was humbled to be recognised alongside other international leaders.
“Yesterday, together with other nominated leaders globally, I got the UNIPGC Honours at the British Parliament. See how God is placing me on podiums that elevate me and favour me despite being out of office,” he stated.
Sonko also served as a keynote speaker during the summit and pledged to support initiatives that promote peace and development.
The recognition came during the 3rd UNIPGC Global Leadership Investment Summit and Peace Awards (GLISPA UK 2025). The summit, themed “Peaceful Coexistence and Synergy for Global Development”, brought together dignitaries, diplomats, philanthropists, and peace advocates from across the world.
Organisers included UNIPGC UK Chapter, the Foreign Investment Network (FIN) UK, Euroknowledge, and Trailblazer Queen USA.
Apart from Sonko, several other personalities were honoured, including Livinis Tsar Adzer, Victor Alonge, Chief Mrs Bolaji Juliet Akinmulero, Dr Carlos Sousa, Zelig Ifeanyi Okonmah, Jaruwan Vantana, Morenike Oluwaseun, Dr Bastin Titus Anthony Raj, and Dr Michael Kanthakaran.
The awards ceremony was anchored by Dr Graziella Thake, UNIPGC Australia Secretary General, while Barr. Williams Chima officiated the investiture on behalf of the UNIPGC Advisory Council.
UNIPGC Global President Amb. Dr Jonathan Ojadah urged recipients to serve as peace ambassadors and uphold integrity in leadership.
Meanwhile, Kevin Uguru, German MP and UNIPGC Europe Secretary General, announced that the next edition of the summit will take place in Germany in May or June 2026.
The UNIPGC has established itself as a key organisation promoting peace, development, and global partnerships. Previous editions of its Global Leadership Summit have been hosted in London and Canada, attracting renowned leaders.
This year’s UK edition was supported by partners such as FIN UK, Euroknowledge UK, the American University of Peace and Governance (AUPG) USA, Trailblazer Queen Production USA, and the London College of Creative Media UK.
