Seven-time Formula 1 world champion Lewis Hamilton has pulled out of a scheduled tyre test with Pirelli to remain at the side of his bulldog, Roscoe, who is in critical condition.
The 12-year-old dog was admitted to the hospital with pneumonia. Hamilton revealed that Roscoe’s heart stopped during medical checks, but doctors managed to revive him.
Hamilton shared the heartbreaking update with fans on Instagram, posting photos from Roscoe’s bedside.
“They managed to get a heartbeat back, and now he’s in a coma. We don’t know whether he will wake from this. Tomorrow we’ll try to wake him up. I’m by his side and want to thank you all for your prayers and support.”
Hamilton was due to take part in a Pirelli tyre test at Mugello, Italy, on Friday. However, his seat was taken over by Chinese reserve driver Zhou Guanyu following his withdrawal.
Roscoe has become a familiar face in the paddock and on social media. With over 1.3 million Instagram followers, he is described as “a vegan bulldog that loves to travel and play ball.” The dog is often spotted with Hamilton at Formula 1 events, drawing affection from fans worldwide.
For Hamilton, Roscoe is more than a pet – he is a companion that has travelled the world with him. The British driver’s decision shows his deep bond with the bulldog, as he prioritises family and love over racing commitments.
